Acrónimos más usados en inglés


Son ampliamente utilizados en las conversaciones diarias de esquina, en aulas de universidades e institutos, por los corredores de clínicas y hospitales, figuran en los medios de comunicación -muchas veces sin ser explicados-, y todo el mundo asume que todo el mundo entiende. Se trata de los acrónimos: «Palabra formada por las primeras letras de las palabras de una expresión compuesta, como por ej., COBOL, Common Business Oriented Language», según define el Diccionario Enciclopédico Pequeño Larousse Ilustrado.

Pero muchas veces estos acrónimos son un verdadero misterio para la gente que los repite sin saber precisamente a qué se están refiriendo y a veces significan variadas cosas en diversos campos. Lo mismo ocurre con las abreviaciones, muy usadas en inglés.
